The Zion Template: Communal - The Outer Courts...
Within our understanding of communal ministry, we have been greatly blessed by the Levitical teaching with regard to temple service. In the New Covenant, we believe, through the letter of Hebrews in particular, it is clear that the three aspects of life, Unclean, Holy and Clean, set out in the Book of Leviticus, are fulfilled in the New Testament by the following application:
1. Unclean: These are aspects of life, which are actively opposed to the ways of God, as revealed in the Holy Scripture. As such, we do not believe we can be part of anything that is unclean or unholy.
2. Holy: As we have stated in our understanding of formation and the process of discipleship, there are things and activities, which are solely dedicated to the Lord and, as such, separated as especially for Him alone.
3. Clean: We believe this is the most neglected aspect of Christian ministry.
This is by far the largest area of life. It is our civic life where believers and unbelievers seek through good will the blessing of the many. We believe that the church has the role of salt and light in this whole area of society.
In the New Testament Acts 2: 17(a) confirms that since the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost after the amazing work of Jesus on the cross, his subsequent resurrection and ascension the Father has kept his promise and poured our His Spirit on all people. We therefore anticipate many people who do not yet know Jesus getting ideas from Him by His Spirit. In this way, the ideas of heaven can impact the earth without the people or institutions being fully aware.
Acts 2:17(b) and following makes it clear that it is for the “sons and daughters, servants and maid servants, of the Lord”, His people the church, to prophesy.
One definition of prophecy is to explain what God is doing and saying. Therefore, the great privilege of the Church is to reveal to people of good will that many of their ideas have been given to them by the Lord.
By the Church entering into partnership in the whole arena of that which is clean in civic society, we believe there is great potential for it to be become holy!
