The Net started on 26/2/08 and runs out of The Pavillion in Lapstone Park. The team is made up of Rita, Lauren and Jess, John, Shirley, Karen and Adam, Julez, Tom and me. I am extremely thankful to God for putting together such an awesome team for me to work with, they are amazing guys to serve with. I feel at this point I must give Simon Stocks from Wyvern a special mention. If it wasn't for his caring hard work The Net would not happen.
To date the team have had the privilege of touching the lives of 11 young men. I was just thinking last week how the four lads who are with us at the moment, have grown in confidence and friendship with each other and the team. When they first came along they were understandably a bit unsure of what was going to happen and if they would enjoy themselves.
One lad has been with us since the beginning and The Net has helped him through some tough times.
We do nothing special. We start with a little prayer of thanks for the food which the team provide on a weekly basis at their own cost. We share our love of the Lord through a 5 minute thought for the day and emphasise that The Net is about food, fun and fellowship. We foster all that is good about family life and value the differences. We chat in small groups, we play games, we plan outings and the following weeks activities together, we all tidy up, we pray and go home. Over the weeks the young people who have come along just seem to blossom.
Jesus said his burden is not heavy. The Net is straight forward fun, food and fellowship. Everyone has a part to play from the youngest to the oldest person there.
